Awards
Presently, eight different awards exist, with the most senior award being the Pheonix Award: for Commitment to the
Dojang, which is given out to a rare few upon demonstrating complete loyalty and commitment to their fellows.
Typically, these individuals are responsible for building the organization, whether that be through attending promotional
events or being an outstanding role model both in and outside of class.  The other awards include:

Musashi Award: for Excellence
Funakoshi Award: for Respect and Discipline
Kanazawa Award: for Indomitable Spirit
Ueshiba Award: for Self-control
Lee Award: for Introspection and Self-development
Rhee Award: for Leadership

Each of these awards is named after a famous master and carries a connotation unique to that individual.  While the
other awards are equal in standing, no one has ever received a Musashi Award, and it may in fact be impossible.
Students should consider it a high honor to receive an award, as very few are given out each year, usually at formal
events such as testing.  The Head Instructor (or Senior Instructor) may give out an award every testing cycle.  Other
instructors may apply for an award through the Head Instructor (or Senior Instructor), but they may only give out a
single award a year.  Assistant instructors and other black belts do not benefit from this privilege.

All dojangmates are potential candidates for awards, even the other instructors.  Students may only receive an award
once.  If an instructor would like to give out an award to the same person, they must first give an award to someone else.

On a humorous note, it is also possible to receive the Rocky Award: for Shrugging off a Battle Wound.  This is given out
to students that injure themselves in practice, but keep coming, even if they can't train with the rest of the class.
Students might come and workout on their own, or sit and watch class if the injury is bad enough.  The fact that they are
there show their dedication, and the bigger the sacrifice, the more likely it is to receive this joking, but very prestigious
award.
